The product Siplex VSG – S is a laminated safety glass that is extremely shatterproof and splinter-binding. Due to its excellent material properties, the laminated safety glass VSG-S has a significantly higher residual load-bearing capacity compared to standard laminated glass in case of failure, so that a display cover glass protects the interior of the housing until it is replaced.
Another advantage of the product is the possible reduction in glass thickness compared to conventional laminated glass with the same strength. To achieve “unrestricted ball impact safety” according to DIN 18032-3, a glass thickness of 8.8 mm is usually required. The Material Testing Institute of the University of Stuttgart has confirmed unrestricted ball impact safety for Glaswerke Haller at a material thickness of only 4.8 mm. Thus, the glass thickness can be reduced by 50 percent, resulting in a weight saving of 10 kg per square meter of glass surface.
The impact resistance is defined by IK classes for electronic assemblies according to EN 62262. The VSG-S glass from Glaswerke Haller is classified as IK 10. In this test, a 5-kilogram steel ball is dropped onto the glass from a height of 40 cm. This test is often also performed with a hammer of the same weight. The glass remains undamaged after the test.

The possible glass thickness depends on the pane size and geometry. Holes or cutouts can reduce the achievable strength.
For example, with a glass thickness of
can be produced.
Higher protection classes beyond EN 62262 (IK10+) are available on request.
The pane size, model contours, or holes affect the achievable protection class. Please consult our experts for the design of the glass pane!
